Winter hardiness hero in soft yellow blooms with very fragrant tea notes of pear and grapefruit. This shrub produces medium in size, semi-double flowers in warm light yellow that fade to paper white, opening flat to reveal bright red stamens, ideal for beds, hedges, rosehip production, and pollinator gardens. J.P. Connell is exceptionally winter hardy and is the only Explorer Series rose not named after a historical explorer. Instead, it honours the Deputy Minister of Agriculture in the 1980s.

J.P. Connell unfolds from butter yellow high-centered buds into medium in size, semi-double blooms borne in solitary or in clusters. The flowers reveal warm light yellow petals that fade to paper white, opening flat to show bright red stamens. Very fragrant with tea notes of pear and grapefruit, this hardy, vigorous shrub offers exceptional aromatic appeal as the lemon yellow blooms transition to creamy-white with yellow centres throughout the season.

This repeat blooming Explorer rose reaches 5 feet in height and 4 feet in width with a bushy habit. Few thorns make maintenance comfortable on almost thornless stems. J.P. Connell is adorned in medium green semi-glossy foliage and demonstrates disease resistance. Highly winter hardy, thriving in CA Zones 3-5+ | USDA 2-4+ and beyond. Can grow in partial-shade to full sun and adapts to all soil types. Suitable for beds, hedges, rosehip production, and pollinator gardens.
