Ordering

When can I place my order?

Because we ship only bare-root dormant roses, our ordering season follows the plants’ natural cycle. We open orders in the fall, once our roses have been graded. You can place orders from fall through early spring. If you stop by our site during the growing season (late spring to early fall), our shop will be closed as the roses are actively growing to be harvested in the fall.

Why can’t I place an order?

We ship bare-root dormant roses, which can be shipped safely only during a specific seasonal window. Since we produce one crop yearly, we begin accepting orders after the fall harvest, once all roses have been graded and inventoried. Because our plants remain dormant from late fall to mid-spring, this is the only time we can take and ship orders. During the rest of the year, our roses are actively growing and cannot be shipped.

Will items in my cart be held for me?

No, items in your cart are not reserved. Roses from our inventory are removed only when a purchase is completed. To make sure you get the roses you want, we suggest checking out as soon as possible.

When do you charge my card for my order?

We charge full payment when you place your order. Since we produce only one crop of bare-root roses each year, this ensures your plants are reserved just for you. We’ll store them carefully in our temperature-controlled cooler until it is the right time in the spring to ship to your area.

Are there tariffs on the rose plants?

No. We are located in Canada and are able to ship to the United States with no tariff costs. We continue to monitor policies closely and will reach out to you if anything changes.

I need to change my order. What do I do?

We appreciate your understanding that we cannot make changes to your order once it is submitted.

Do you combine orders?

Thank you for your orders! Our system processes each order separately, so we're not able to combine them after they're placed.

How do I cancel my order?

We understand that circumstances can change. You may cancel your order up to 2 weeks before your scheduled shipping date. After March 1st, a 20% cancellation fee will be applied since our window to sell the cancelled plants will be significantly reduced. Please contact us at hello@lakeviewroses.com and we would be happy to assist you.

Do you offer gift certificates or gift cards?

Yes! We have digital gift cards available for buying roses online. They can be sent to yourself or as a gift via email.

Zones & Shipping Dates
What are your shipping rates?

Canadian orders ship at a flat rate of CAD $20.00 per order, and U.S. orders ship at a flat rate of USD $25.00 per order. Any required export or interprovincial certificates are included in this charge, and shipping costs are calculated automatically at checkout.

Please note that deliveries to remote areas, as well as orders shipping to Hawaii or Alaska, may require shipping fee adjustments. If this applies to your order, our Customer Care team will contact you before processing the shipment.

I will be away when my roses are going to be shipped. Can I change my shipping date?

We understand that your schedule might not work with our shipping timeline. Please reach out to us at hello@lakeviewroses.com and we would be happy to work with you to plan your shipment.

What should I do after my roses arrive?

When your roses arrive, please be sure to bring them out of the elements. They can stay in the box and unopened bag for a day or so in a cold and dark place, but they would be so much happier if you planted them right away. You will find planting instructions in your box. Be sure to read and follow along. To dig a little deeper into the details of planting and care, please see Planting a Lakeview Rose.

How do I find my Growing Zone?

We have a Plant Hardiness Growing Zone checker on the page linked below.

Find Your Zone
Canadian Hardiness Zones and USDA Hardiness Zones

Hardiness zones help by providing standards for gardeners to determine which plants are most suitable for their location. We have included both CA zones and USDA zones in our rose descriptions to help you decide what would thrive best in your garden.  Each country uses different criteria to determine a hardiness zone rating.  This often results in the Canadian Hardiness zone rating number being one zone higher than the USDA (for example: CA 6 is the same as USDA 5).

My rose is not thriving. What do I do?

If your rose does not appear to be thriving, please email us a photo at hello@lakeviewroses.com along with details about your gardening practices, so we can help assess the issue.

Common reasons roses may struggle to establish include:

  • Not being planted promptly upon arrival
  • Being soaked in water for too long before planting
  • A planting site that is too wet or watered too little
  • Applying chemical fertilizer too early, which can burn young roots

We’ll review your photo and provide guidance or next steps based on what we see.

My rose died. How do I place a claim?

If your rose doesn’t survive its first growing season, please use the link below to send us a photo of the rose before August 31 of that year, along with details of what you have done for the plant and observed. We’ll review your claim and issue a refund if applicable.

I bought this rose because I wanted an intensely fragrant rose, but it has no scent

Rose fragrance is one of the most complex scents in nature, with each variety containing 300–400+ aromatic compounds. Because people have different sensitivities to these molecules, the scent you perceive may be different from someone else’s experience.

When purchasing roses online, you won’t have the opportunity to smell them first. Choosing fragrance award-winning varieties can help, as these roses have been found to be remarkably fragrant by the rose trial judges and participants, increasing the likelihood that their scent will appeal to a wider range of people.

My rose did not overwinter

We can’t guarantee that roses will survive the winter, since it depends on your local climate and gardening practices.

Roses may struggle to overwinter if they:

  • Are fertilized or pruned late in the season, which keeps them growing instead of slowing naturally. Pruning also reduces the amount of die-back insurance you have during the winter months.
  • Enter winter stressed, from being too dry, too wet, or too weak (due to disease not treated in the growing season).
  • Did not receive proper winter protection, such as hilling around the base.
  • The growing zone was too low for the cultivar.

Taking steps to protect your roses for the winter can help them come back strong in the spring!

My rose looks like it is the wrong rose/cultivar

If your rose is the wrong cultivar, please use the link below to send us a photo of the rose before August 31 of that year. We’ll review your claim and issue a refund if applicable.
