Named in honor of the famed garden designer, Gertrude Jekyll® is one of the most cherished David Austin® roses for its exceptional fragrance and classic beauty. It bears medium to large, old-fashioned, quartered blooms in brilliant cool pink, releasing a rich old rose perfume layered with fruity, citrus, and tea notes. Hardy and tolerant of both sun and partial shade, it’s ideal for beds, hedges, cutting gardens, and mixed borders.

More About Gertrude Jekyll®

Gertrude Jekyll® opens from bulbous, pink buds in clusters, revealing medium to large, old-fashioned blooms in cool shades of brilliant pink with a darker centre. As the very double flowers mature, they unfurl into quartered blooms that maintain their romantic, old-fashioned form. Very fragrant with a rich old rose perfume layered with subtle fruity, citrus, and tea notes, these blooms bring both vibrant colour and exceptional fragrance to the garden.

Growing Details

Gertrude Jekyll® forms an upright, bushy shrub reaching 5' × 3', thriving in CA Zones 5-6+ | USDA 4-5+ and beyond with excellent cold hardiness and heat tolerance. In warmer climates, it can even be trained as a small climber. This continuous blooming rose is adorned with green, textured foliage with a soft matte finish and may show minor fungal susceptibility in certain areas. Adapting well to both full sun and partial shade, it is ideal for statement plantings, beds, hedges, cutting gardens, and spaces with dappled light.
