A Celebration of Florals
This past weekend, the second annual Niagara-on-the-Lake In Bloom Festival brought beauty and creativity to our region. Our very own Myrica was right at the heart of it. In addition to her Content and Community work with Lakeview Roses, Myrica is a talented event florist, and one of the professional contributors to this event.
Seeing her installation come to life under the theme All Creatures Big and Small was an absolute joy. Congratulations, Myrica! Your creativity never ceases to inspire!

Building A Garden That Does More
A rose garden is a beautiful thing. Interspersing a thoughtful mix of perennials and annuals creates something even more amazing. Diversity in the garden is not just about looks, it also works quietly and powerfully behind the scenes to support the health of your roses and the whole garden ecosystem.
Beauty
Play with companion plants for colour and height. Stagger bloom times to extend the season and ensure a continuously flowering display, filling in the landscape beautifully as other blooms are spent. The photo above is an example of this in action. The companion plant is in peak bloom while the rose is headed toward the end of this flush.
Garden Friends
Attract beneficial insects, pollinators and birds to naturally keep pest populations in check. Some plants will even repel pests. Enjoy observing nature's balance in your garden.

Soil
Beneath the surface, diversity is just as important. Fibrous roots hold soil in place on slopes, deep taproots draw nutrients up from below, and some plants actively break up tough, compacted soil. Some companions also help rebalance the microbiology of the soil benefiting the health of the plants in your garden.
